A Picture Of A Body KitVehicle body kits range in price and size, depending upon the type of products that are included and how extreme or unique you want to be. They are sold by a number of different manufacturers including AIT Racing, Pure Polyurethane, ViS Racing, and Extreme Dimensions. There is a wide selection available for purchase when you're ready to change or customize your vehicle.

Basically, a body kit consists of a coordinated set of front and rear bumpers, and a pair of side skirts. Most manufacturers will allow you to interchange their products to create your own personal style or design, or you can purchase complete sets. The various components may require some modification to fit your vehicle.

There are numerous styles of front and rear bumpers, the front being the first thing that people notice on your car. Many feature open areas for ducts or grills that should be covered with some type of mesh. Some body kits include the mesh and some do not. Rear bumpers may also have open ducts or cutouts for exhaust tips, which may fit perfectly over the factory exhaust, or in some instances, the ducts will have to be modified. Usually, the bumpers will simply replace the factory ones, but at times, the actual bumper supports will have to be removed to get a perfect fit. Side skirting runs along the bottom of the car's side, below the doors, from the front to the rear wheels. Skirts add a distinctive touch and streamline the total effect of the car's profile. Some of these are designed with open ducts at the rear for the sport type vehicle.

A Picture Of A Body KitThe components that are included are specifically designed for each vehicle model and style. Extreme Dimensions offers kits that include different styles of front and rear bumpers and side skirting in 5 oz. fiberglass or urethane material. Paint, lights, and splitters are usually not included, but can be ordered separately. A choice of materials used for body kit products include carbon fiber, fiberglass, polyurethane, and plastic. Generally, the products included are unfinished and will need sanding, priming, and painting, and even drilling or notching. A few manufacturers apply a thin gel coat on the parts before shipping, however. Fiberglass is inexpensive, but breaks easily. Carbon fiber parts are expensive, but the results are outstanding. They don't require any preparation, as they come finished and ready for installation.

At times, it may be necessary to replace the fenders on your vehicle to conform to the other parts. Replacement fenders can add a great deal to the wide body and tire styles, as well as for the deep inset tire rims. A few body kits may also include fenders, fender flares, and even door caps for the ultimate in eye-catching style.
